PeopleSoft Security
Security within the PeopleSoft applications has several aspects. Most permissions are packaged into Permission Lists. Certain permissions are assigned directly from a Permission List (such as the Primary Permission List). Other permissions - such as pages are assigned by collections of Permission Lists called Roles. A user can have a number of roles assigned to them.
Pages
Pages are assigned to users via collections of Permission Lists called Roles. Pages are organised via Components and Menus for security.
Primary Permission List
The Primary Permission List for the user determines the sign on times, query profile and process profiles of the user. There are a set of defaults attached to the Primary Permission list - see Primary Permission List Defaults
Row Level Security
The row level security permission list is one link into the application security.
For instance, within HR, the Row Level Security permission list determines the user's rights within the department security set, but if other security sets are in use, these would use permission lists granted through roles.
Process Group Security
Process group security determines which processes a user can run. They would still need access to the run control page.
Query Security
Query security has two aspects:
- Which records a user can query - determined by access to access group nodes of the query security trees.
- Which functions a user can access within query - such as number of table joins and use of union.
